ASUU: FG Pays Medical Lecturers Salary Arrears, Shuns Others
The Federal Government has reportedly begun paying salary arrears to lecturers in the departments of Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, and Medicine at a number of federal universities.
The lecturers are affiliated with the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics, one of the two splinter groups authorised by the government to reduce the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ influence.

ASUU was unable to convince the government to pay the lecturers their salaries for the duration of the strike.
However, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, an organisation comprised of academic and consultant medical doctors, explained to the government that medical schools were not closed during the strike, and as a result, their members’ salaries should not be withheld.
A source from Nnamdi Azikiwe University confirmed to our correspondent in Abuja that medical lecturers have been paid their withheld salaries.
