This united front transcends political party lines, with both legislators and state executives seeking a political solution to the crisis. Legal Perspectives and Possible Outcomes.

Legal experts suggest several possible outcomes. Constitutional lawyer Professor Auwalu Yadudu mentioned that if the government could secure a commitment from South-East leaders, it could pursue a ‘nolle prosequi’—discontinuing the trial. Professor Seyi Akinseye-George (SAN) noted that an out-of-court settlement would require a political decision. Barrister Chukwudi Igwe added that the President, through the AGF, has the leeway to withdraw the charges against Kanu.

The push for Kanu’s release is seen as a critical step toward restoring peace and stability in the South-East region
