The Federal Government, through the National Universities Commission, has encouraged qualified Nigerians to apply for Chevening scholarships, a British government initiative.
Pls note that the 2023 form is not out yet.
This was stated in a letter signed by Chris Maiyaki, the NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Administration, and addressed to all vice-chancellors.
“The National Universities Commission has received the letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ref. TSW/BRI/V/T, dated 12 August 2022, with the attached Call Letter from the British High Commission Abuja, dated 3rd August 2022, on the above subject,” the commission stated.

Who can apply for a Chevening Scholarship?
Applications are now open for fully funded Chevening Scholarships to study for one-year master’s degrees at UK universities.
Chevening provides outstanding emerging leaders from around the world with the opportunity to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the United Kingdom.
There is no such thing as a “typical” Chevening Scholar, but those who are successful have ambition, leadership qualities, and a strong desire to affect positive change in their home countries.
If you meet our eligibility criteria and other requirements, we encourage you to apply. We are unconcerned about your gender, age (there is no upper age limit), sexual orientation, religion, marital or parental status, caste, class, or other characteristics.
What matters is your ability to submit a well-thought-out application. The application should demonstrates you are capable of excelling on a rigorous master’s programme in the UK and that you have a clear vision for your future.
Eligibility for Chevening scholarships
Ineligible applications will be rejected, so it is important that you check that you meet our eligibility criteria before you start your application.
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.
Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application.
This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class. 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.
Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 13 July 2023.
You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:
Have British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a British Overseas Territory citizen or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
Have refugee status in a country that is not a Chevening eligible country.
Scholarships are available to applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and have refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country.
Have previously studied in the United Kingdom with the assistance of a UK Government-funded scholarship.
Having a master’s degree does not preclude you from applying for the Chevening scholarships.
To study for a second master’s degree in the UK, as long as you can clearly explain how it will help you fulfil your career goals of influencing positive change in your home country.
