Oruma played a significant role in Nigeria’s 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medal victory. He earned 19 international caps for Nigeria and played for several European clubs, including Marseille, Nimes, Sochaux, and Guingamp.

However, he has been absent from public view for a number of years. Recent reports indicated that he was gravely ill and required assistance.

A recent viral video depicted an older man resembling Oruma receiving intravenous fluids on a hospital bed.

On social media, the video elicited a variety of responses, with some fans sending prayers and well wishes.

The video that went viral over the weekend implied that the former Super Eagles midfielder was hospitalised and gravely ill. On his sick bed, he was snoring while connected to a drip.

There was no mention of his purported illness, but he appeared to be cared for with a urinary catheter.

Oruma reportedly lost about N2 billion after a pastor duped him into investing in the oil and gas industry.

In 2018, Oruma developed an emotional disorder as a result of the experience, which left him destitute.

However, in a viral video seen by Ejes Gist News Nigeria on Wednesday morning, the 46-year-old claimed to be in good health.

While he appreciated the concern shown for him since the report, the former football player said, “What’s up, my people?” Much love. Thank you for everything — each and every support you’ve given me.

“I appreciate the love you have shown my family. We are fit and healthy. Thank you incredibly.

“I never knew people could love so deeply. I appreciate and celebrate you all. Thank you incredibly.

“One love, Naija,” he added.

Oruma’s Glorious Football Career

Oruma was a member of the Nigeria U-17 team that won the FIFA U-17 World Championships in 1993. He was the team captain and tournament’s leading scorer with six goals.

Oruma, who was viewed by many as Jay Jay Okocha’s natural successor when he joined the Super Eagles, played 19 times in 11 years for Nigeria in international competition.

He was a member of the team that competed in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where he scored in his solitary appearance against Paraguay.

A year after making his debut for Nigeria, he was also a member of the squad that won the Olympic gold medal in 1996.

The midfielder was also a member of the Nigerian squad that finished in third place at the 2002 and 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.
