PDP Former Chairman Sent to Prison Over Alleged Cultism and Forgery in Ebonyi State.
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has remanded Augustine Nwazunku, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state. He was arraigned before the court with three other defendants on very serious allegations that include cultism, forgery, and impersonation.
Meanwhile, the court, presided over by Magistrate Ojemba Isu-oko, refused to grant bail to Nwazunku in an application filed by his counsel, U. A. Obasi. Justice Isu-oko ordered suspects to be reminded in prison custody until November 18, 2024.

The charges against Nwazunku and his co-defendants, Obinna Nwachukwu, Ogbonnaya Idika, and Njoku Nwagwu, are in relation to their alleged involvement in the unlawful suspension of Ali Odefa, PDP’s national vice-chairman, south-east.
The suspects reportedly forged a letter, which falsely appeared to emanate from PDP executives at the Ogudu-Okwor Ward in Oshiri, Ebonyi State, to the effect that Odefa had been suspended from membership of the party.
Court documents showed that the suspects are suspected members of the proscribed secret cult group, Vikings Confraternity.

The incident has attracted major publicity in Ebonyi State amid the recent hemorrhaging of key members of the PDP to the APC. Last week, top chieftains of the PDP, including a former legislator Sylvester Ogbaga, joined the APC.
The unraveling of the case has left many wondering how these allegations, of a serious nature indeed, will be disposed of in the November 18 court session.
