Matthew Uroghide, a notable figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former senator representing Edo South, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uroghide made this significant move after 13 years of allegiance to the PDP, during an event in Benin City on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Describing himself as a foundational member of the APC, Uroghide expressed his satisfaction in returning to a party of mature politicians, a party in which he trusts and has confidence in its leadership.
He assured the APC of his commitment to contribute towards building the party and ensuring victory for its candidates in the upcoming 2024 Edo governorship election.

Uroghide was not the sole politician who switched sides from the PDP to the APC on that day. Among others was Patrick Giwa, a former clerk of the House of Representatives and candidate for the Owan Federal Constituency in the 2023 election.
Additionally, eight local government chairmen, including Frank Ilaboya of Owan West Local Government Area, made the transition to the APC.
The reception for these new APC members was graced by prominent leaders of the party, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole and the state executive.
During the event, Oshiomhole took the opportunity to extend his apologies to Senator Uroghide for past misjudgments, acknowledging an error in favoring another aspirant over him.
He warmly welcomed Uroghide back into the APC fold, commending his robust, resourceful, and determined political demeanor, which is expected to significantly bolster the party’s prospects of success.
