In a heartwarming gesture of kindness, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation has stepped forward to settle the medical expenses of the beloved Nollywood veteran, John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr. Ibu. This charitable act was officially announced on the foundation’s Facebook page on Friday, October 20.
Mr. Ibu, who has been battling an undisclosed ailment, will soon be flown overseas for the specialized medical attention he requires, thanks to the support from the foundation.
The foundation expressed its delight in being able to extend a helping hand to Mr. Okafor, a prominent figure in comedy, who has graced our screens for over four decades, bringing joy and laughter to countless households.

The statement released by the foundation reads:
When we learned of his recent health challenges and the financial burdens associated with his medical treatment, we felt a deep sense of responsibility to assist in any way we could. We promptly paid off his entire medical expenses as of Wednesday.
“We encourage everyone who can to come forward and assist in any capacity, whether it’s through financial contributions, moral support, or prayers.
“We wish him a swift and complete recovery.”
It is worth recalling that Mr. Ibu had made a heartfelt plea for assistance while in his sickbed, stating that he did not want his leg to be amputated due to the need for specialized overseas treatment.
The actor’s daughter also reached out to Nigerians, explaining that the family was facing difficulty covering the mounting medical expenses incurred during his prolonged hospital stay and the recommended overseas treatment.
In response to Mr. Ibu’s call for help, prominent Nigerian artists, including Davido, P-Square, Korra Obidi, Obi Cubana, and others, rallied to support the actor and ensure he receives the medical care he urgently requires.
