Following a failed attempt to apprehend the head of the central bank, Ejes Gist News Nigeria has learned that the secret police has reopened investigations into multiple allegations in an effort to apprehend the embattled Emefiele for possible prosecution.
An Online newspaper recently published some of the exclusive details it obtained from court documents regarding the controversy surrounding Emefiele’s trial, including funding for “unknown gunmen” and the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The federal government had outlawed IPOB, a separatist organization that promotes the establishment of the Biafra republic and advocates for secession.
In the past few years, its members had murdered hundreds of civilians and security personnel, in addition to torching police and military formations, INEC offices, and other symbols of authority.
In the online publication’s report, Emefiele was also accused of undermining Nigeria’s national security by sabotaging the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, financing terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism, and committing other economic crimes.
It also accused the CBN governor of mismanaging the subsidiary of the central bank, NIRSAL, and the Anchor Borrowers Programme.

The DSS alleged that Emefiele financed IPOB/ESN with both the funds he raised for his unsuccessful presidential campaign last year and funds stolen from government coffers.
Additionally, the secret government agency accused Emefiele of “fraud, money laundering, round-tripping, and financial benefit to self and others.”
The report stated that he mismanaged government interventionist funds under his control and concluded that “investigation is still ongoing on a broader scale as other members of the syndicate chain must be identified and arrested to enable successful prosecution.”

Last year, Emefiele ran for the presidential nomination on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ejes Gist News Nigeria’s attempts to obtain his response to the allegations made against him by the DSS were unsuccessful because his office did not respond to inquiries.
However, at the height of the controversy surrounding his political ambitions, the CBN governor stated that his admirers funded the presidential form and other logistics, denying any wrongdoing.

He also petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja for an order affirming his eligibility to vie for the APC’s nomination. However, on 9 May the court denied Emefiele’s petition.
According to multiple sources, the DSS continues to investigate all of the suspicions surrounding the CBN governor in an effort to bring him to justice.
Godwin Emefiele, has been governor since 2014 and he is the first person in nearly two decades to serve two terms as the head of Nigeria’s central bank. In June 2014, he was appointed by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, after Sarah Alade completed the term of the suspended Lamido Sanusi.
