Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning against the impersonation of members listed on a purported fake caretaker committee roster for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), setting the stage for a potential confrontation.
The contentious list, which gained momentum on social media and found its way into national newspapers on Thursday, was promptly denounced by Governor Fubara as “counterfeit and misleading.

Following a pivotal meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Governor Fubara moved to clarify the situation.
A press release from Nelson Chukwudi, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, outlined that the discussions reaffirmed decisions reached in a prior meeting involving the NWC, the Board of Trustees, and the PDP Governors’ Forum back in March concerning the authenticity of the caretaker committee members.

In light of this, emphasis was placed on a letter dated March 27, 2024, from the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon Umar Bature, addressed to Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Rivers State Caretaker Committee of the PDP.
This letter was cited as the definitive resolution on the matter, solidifying the list of genuine caretaker committee members and effectively nullifying the disputed version circulating online and in the press.

Governor Fubara’s warning was unequivocal: individuals found masquerading as committee members based on the disputed list at any PDP office would face arrest for “forgery and impersonation.”
He emphasized that no amount of intimidation, covert operations, lobbying, or misuse of public resources would alter the established stance of the party on this issue.
The governor’s firm stance sets the stage for potential conflict within the PDP ranks in Rivers State, as tensions escalate over the legitimacy of caretaker committee members.
