Police arrest LP candidate ‘who hired assailants to kill PDP chieftain’ in Ebonyi
The Ebonyi police command arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman Peter Nweke in Ezza north Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
During the 18 March governorship and state assembly elections in Ebonyi, it is alleged that the PDP leader was beaten to death.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the state’s police spokesperson, stated at a press conference on Friday in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi, that one of the suspects is a Labour Party (LP) house of assembly candidate.
She stated that the suspects were arrested on March 28. They are Kelechi Nwali, Onyebuchi Chita, Aloke Obinna, and Ifeanyi Nwokpuku.
The police spokesperson explained that 21 individuals are also being sought in relation to the crime.
“As a result of the dastardly act, the commissioner of police, CP Faleye S. Olaleye, has instructed all police officers in the command to apprehend the murderers,” a police spokesperson said.
“Consequently, four suspects were arrested on March 28 in relation to the death of Mr. Peter Nweke.
“During the interrogation of the suspects, one Kelechi Nwali, male, a Labour Party house of assembly candidate for the Ezza north constituency, admitted to hiring the assailants who were supposed to torture the victim, but he died in the process.

“According to Nwali, the late Peter Nweke posed a threat to his political ambitions, so he contacted one Akwasi, a male from Nnachi Umuezeoka in Ezza north, who orchestrated the torture that led to Mr. Nweke’s death.
“The second suspect, Onyebuchi Chita of the Nkomoro community, admitted to bringing the killers from Nkomoro to the Ogboji community, where Peter Nweke was murdered.
“The third suspect, Aloke Obinna of the Ogboji community, admitted to having given his motorbike to Onyebuchi Chita in order for him to flee the scene of the crime.”
“While Ifeanyi Nwokpuku, the fourth suspect from the Ogboji community in Ezza north, conspired with a man named Sampson Nweke, who led the killers to Peter Nweke,”
At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be arraigned in court, according to Onovwakpoyeya.
