Governors Generously Declare N100K Christmas Bonus for State Workers Amid Economic Challenges.
As the year 2023 came to a close and Nigerians geared up for 2024, some state governors wrapped up the year by announcing substantial Christmas bonuses for workers. Several governors, recognizing the economic hardships faced by citizens following the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu, declared a take-home bonus of N100,000 for workers in their states.
President Tinubu, acknowledging the economic challenges, had consistently reassured Nigerians that conditions would improve. Before heading for his Christmas holiday, he implemented a 50% reduction in transportation costs for inter-state travelers and free train rides.
In response to this initiative, three governors went a step further by announcing significant Christmas bonuses for civil servants in their respective states. Here are the details of the governors and their generous gestures:
Governors Paying N100K Christmas Bonus for Workers.
1. Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State): Despite a growing rift with his godfather and former governor, Nyesom Wike, Governor Fubara declared a noteworthy N100,000 Christmas bonus for all civil servants in the state’s ministries, agencies, and parastatals. This marked a significant departure from the norm, providing workers with a substantial Christmas bonus.
2. Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State): Following Fubara’s lead, Governor Nwifuru of Ebonyi State approved a N100,000 bonus for the workers in the southeast state. The announcement was made during the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative Christmas Party’ in Abakaliki, ensuring that every worker would receive the generous bonus.
3. Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State): Governor Abiodun of Ogun State also joined the ranks of generous governors by approving substantial Christmas bonuses for civil servants. The bonuses ranged from 68% to an impressive 159% of basic salaries and covered workers from Level one to Level 17. In monetary terms, the bonuses varied based on levels, with Level 16 and 17 workers receiving a commendable N100,000.
These acts of generosity from the governors come at a time when citizens are grappling with economic challenges, offering a glimmer of relief and festive cheer to the hardworking civil servants in their respective states.
