Full List of Professional Bodies and Councils FG Plans to Stop their Funding

The Federal Government has announced its decision to cease providing budgetary allocations to professional bodies and councils. In a memorandum addressed to one of the affected councils on June 26, 2023, the Budget Office of the Federation stated that this action aligns with the directive of the Presidential Committee On Salaries (PCS).

 

The circulated memorandum, bearing the signature of Ben Akabueze, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, was confirmed by a reliable source within the Budget Office during an interview with Channels Television.

By December 2024, funding will be discontinued for a minimum of 30 professional bodies and councils, while other organizations will no longer receive budgetary allocations as of December 2026.

 

 

“Please be informed that the Presidential Committee on Salaries (PCS), during its 13th meeting, approved the discontinuation of budgetary allocation to Professional Bodies/Councils effective from the 31st of December, 2026,” read a portion of the memorandum.

The purpose of this correspondence is to notify you that, in compliance with the PCS’s directive, our Office will cease making budgetary provisions to your institution, starting from the aforementioned date. Consequently, your organization will be considered self-funded.

To be clear, effective from the 31st of December, 2026, your institution will be solely responsible for all personnel, overhead, and capital expenditures.
