Global Terrorism Index lists IPOB as 10th deadliest in the world
IPOB Position on Global Terrorism Index (GTI) Ranking
The Global Terrorism Index has listed the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as the tenth most lethal terrorist organisation in the world.
The GTI is an annual report published by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP). Since 2000, the index provides a comprehensive summary of the most significant global trends and patterns in terrorism.
Islamic State (IS or ISIS) and its affiliates were, according to the most recent report released on Tuesday, the deadliest terrorist organisations in the world in 2022, followed by Al-Shabaab, the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISK), and Jamaat Nusrat Al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM).
This online newspaper reports that for the eighth consecutive year, ISIS, Al-Shabaab, ISK, and JNIM have remained the deadliest terror group in the world, committing the most attacks and causing the most deaths.
According to the GTI report, IPOB is the second most lethal terrorist organisation in Nigeria, behind only Boko Haram.
Although IPOB, a group founded by the currently detained Nnamdi Kanu, frequently contests its ban by the Nigerian government and maintains that it is nonviolent, multiple reports indicate that it has armed affiliates.
