Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has addressed concerns regarding the reported allocation of N1.5 billion for the purchase of two Hilux vehicles in the state’s 2024 budget.
Otti clarified that the inflated figure was a result of a software glitch in the Excel package used for budget preparation.

Highlighting the error, Otti stated, “It’s a mistake that has been corrected.” He emphasized the significance of the error in the context of the total budget, noting that the N1.5 billion represented less than half a percent of the overall budget of N487 billion.
Acknowledging the importance of public vigilance, Otti appreciated those who brought the error to his attention, reinforcing the idea that government actions must be accurate.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and hold governments accountable in the democratic spirit.
While emphasizing that budgetary allocations don’t necessarily mandate full expenditure, Otti assured that oversight mechanisms were in place, and the corrected figure for the Hilux vehicles was N150 million, not N1.5 billion.
The Governor concluded by reiterating the accuracy of the overall budget numbers.
