Anita Pointer, an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the vocal group the Pointer Sisters, lost her battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 74.
The singer, who won a Grammy, passed away on the eve of the new year, Saturday, December 31, at her home in Los Angeles, California, United States, where she was surrounded by her family.

“Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters has passed away after a valiant battle with cancer,” the family of Anita Pointer wrote in a statement that was posted on Instagram on Sunday.
“Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we find comfort in the knowledge that she is now with her daughter, Jada, as well as her sisters, June and Bonnie.

It went on to say that Anita’s presence in heaven makes it a more lovely and loving place.
Anita was one of the original members of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, who went on to win the hearts of listeners all over the world with songs like “I am So Excited,” “Jump,” and “Fire.”

The band, originally from Oakland, California, was comprised of the sisters Ruth and June, and they released their debut album in 1973, before going on to win three Grammy awards.
