Gunmen have reportedly killed three police officers in Umunze, located in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to reports, the officers were fatally shot on Thursday at a checkpoint situated along Umunze-Ihite road within the community.

According to reports, armed assailants entered the vicinity and proceeded to discharge firearms at law enforcement personnel, resulting in the fatalities of three officers.

“Anambra Police Spokesperson Confirms Killing”

 

The killing was confirmed by Tochuckwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra police.

Ikenga acknowledged that the attacks are an inherent risk that security officers face while carrying out their duties.

However, he stated that the police remain undeterred by the attacks and have initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators.

Ikenga reported that reinforcement teams have been deployed to the area and are currently conducting a manhunt for the assailants. Additionally, joint security patrols have been intensified in the area.
