Gunmen Abduct Catholic Priest in Imo
Mathias Opara, a Catholic priest, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Imo state.
On Friday, May 26, the priest was reportedly kidnapped along Ejemekwuru and Ogbaku roads between Oguta and Mbaitoli Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Imo.
A witness told Newsmen that Opara was abducted while returning from the funeral of a colleague’s father in the Izombe community of Oguta LGA.

Reportedly, the gunmen kidnapped the priest along with other passengers in the vehicle.
“The incident occurred directly in front of us.” When the incident occurred, we were also returning to Owerri from the funeral, the witness reportedly stated.
The incident was confirmed by Raymond Ogu, director of public communications for the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese.
“He was returning from Izombe.” “These individuals emerged from the bush and ambushed them,” he explained.

“There were approximately five people in the vehicle, including the priest, but one young boy escaped during the ambush.
“The thugs abducted the priest and the other three passengers, but at some point, they released the other three so they could steal his car, but they fled into the bush with the priest.”
Similarly, Jude Maduka, the parish priest of Christ the King Catholic Church, Ezinachi/Ugwuago in Okigwe LGA of the state, was abducted last Sunday.
The priest was reportedly abducted from the parish house in the early hours of Sunday morning as he prepared for mass.
