It was impossible to get a hold of the national president of the union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, right away to get his thoughts on the situation.

After the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called off its strike on the 14th of October, this online media platform learned that the lecturers were paid a “mutilated” salary for the month, and the remaining months’ salaries were withheld.

Due to the fact that the union did not end their strike until two weeks into the month, the Federal Government stated that the payment would be made on a pro-rata basis.

However, ASUU protested, claiming that the government was treating the work of academics in a disrespectful manner.

The executive branch of the government has insisted that it will not change its position on the implementation of the “No Work, No Pay” policy, despite the fact that there have been protests and that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has intervened.

The decision made by the government to withhold the salaries of lecturers had resulted in a series of protests across the country, with some branches of the union calling for the dismissal of the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, as well as the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige.
