According to Uboh, this occurred after he exposed an alleged forex scam involving Godwin Emefiele, the disgraced former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He complimented President Bola Tinubu for suspending Emefiele and launching an investigation.

Uboh stated, “While the media is replete with reports of Emefiele’s corruption after his arrest, prior to his arrest, no Nigerian had the audacity to criticise the Almighty Emefiele. The George Uboh Whistleblowers Network (hereafter GUWN) exposed Emefiele’s corruption regarding a $3 billion forex fraud scheme through letters sent to him on or around April 1, 2019.

“I was arrested in my Maitama office on May 15, 2019, the day Emefiele appeared before the Senate for screening and clearance for his second term. I was detained for 101 days for disparaging Emefiele’s vile reputation. The then Chief Judge of the FCT, Ishaq Bello, denied my request for bail. I was verbally denied bail by DIG Mike Ogbizi after completing the administrative bail granted to me by his men at Force CID.

“We humbly request that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR instruct law enforcement agencies to collaborate with whistleblowers in order to solve crimes more quickly, track down and recover enormous funds that have been stolen or misappropriated.

“Implement and strengthen the whistleblower policy initiated by his predecessor, with an office (not housed in any ministry to avoid a conflict of interest) to be led by a person who has the capacity and zeal to embrace all whistleblowing tenets.”

In addition, he suggested establishing and strengthening the whistleblower policy. Uboh proposed a separate office outside of any existing ministry in order to avoid conflicts of interest.

This office, Uboh advised, should be led by an individual who is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about whistleblowing and its principles in order to ensure whistleblower protection and compensation.
