The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, clarified that he did not personally approach President Bola Tinubu for intervention in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.
Speaking at the 20th wedding anniversary and thanksgiving event of Hon Dr & Dr (Mrs) George-Kelly D.A. Alabo at the Kings Assembly Church on Sunday, Wike acknowledged President Tinubu’s role in addressing the political turmoil in the oil-rich state.
Wike expressed gratitude for the President’s involvement in resolving the crisis, emphasizing the need to appreciate the intervention. He highlighted the irony of those who initially sought Tinubu’s involvement now asserting that the President lacked the constitutional power to intervene.
During his address, the former Rivers State governor stated, “We must thank Mr President for interfering and intervening, but I was not even the one who went to the President to seek for his intervention.” Wike pointed out the inconsistency of those who initially urged the President to intervene and later questioned the constitutional authority behind such interference.
“They were saying ‘President intervene, President intervene,’ and President intervened; they are now saying Mr President has no constitutional power to have intervened,” Wike remarked.
