Program Overview:
The GrowAfrica Internship Program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practices, facilitating a smooth transition for graduate students into their careers. The program provides hands-on opportunities to contribute to agribusiness development in Africa, offering a dynamic learning experience that includes skill development, industry insights, networking, and project involvement.
Project Backgrounds:
Interns will work on Upstream and Advisory projects designed to reduce operational risks in IFC investment projects. These projects focus on strengthening supply chains, addressing food security, enhancing collaboration with the World Bank, building farmer capacities, improving product traceability, and promoting food safety. The six key projects include:
- Expanding the capacity of an Agri-commodity trader to increase its sourcing from farmers.
- Promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving business management for coffee farmers in Uganda.
- Promoting agricultural production in the poultry and coffee sectors in Angola.
- Increasing productivity and establishing a reliable supply chain to revive the cotton sector in Mozambique.
- Developing a food security heatmap to identify investment opportunities in Africa, reducing dependency on imports.
- Collaborating with World Bank operations to leverage IFC’s private sector expertise.
Internship Objectives:

Scope of Assignments:
Interns will assist the Project Coordinator in various tasks, including:
- Coordinating farmer training on Good Agricultural Practices.
- Supporting Licensed Buying Agents with record-keeping and supply chain traceability.
- Maintaining project documents and drafting reports.
- Monitoring project indicators and updating risk registers.
- Establishing demonstration sites for participatory learning.
- Supervising quality seed production under the Community Based Seed Production Programs.
- Contributing to data collection and stakeholder engagement for priority crops.
- Facilitating project meetings and field trips.
- Preparing materials for activities and media outreach.
- Promoting Sustainable Agro-ecological practices.
Selection Criteria:
- Prefer Master’s or PhD candidates with at least two years of work experience.
- Specialization in relevant fields such as crop-science, agriculture economy, agronomy, soil management, social science, or economics.
- Ability to use initiative, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media.
- Effective communication skills in multicultural environments.
- Knowledge of African agribusiness challenges and opportunities.
- Languages: English (all projects), Hausa (Nigeria), Portuguese (Angola/Mozambique), French (Senegal).
Remuneration:
- Working hours limited to a maximum of 160 hours per month.
- Internship stipend negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
