Nigeria Labour Congress Accuses Governor Uzodinma of Orchestrating Attack on President Ajaero’s Hometown

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has leveled grave allegations against Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, claiming that he dispatched thugs to assault the village of the NLC president, Joe Ajaero.

According to Benson Upah, the Head of Media and Information for NLC, Uzodinma allegedly sent the thugs with the intent to assassinate Ajaero on Saturday.

The attack targeted Azalla Owalla in Emekuku, the hometown of the NLC president, under the misguided belief that Ajaero was still present and recovering from injuries sustained during a previous encounter with the police and hired assailants.

In a statement released on Sunday, Upah asserted that last week’s attack on Ajaero was an effort to suppress and brutalize the NLC president.

The statement read in part, “In a shocking turn of events, on the morning of November 4th, 2023, Governor Hope Uzodimma once again demonstrated his utter disregard for human rights and democratic principles by invading and attacking the community of Azalla Owalla in Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State, the hometown of NLC President.”

“It is evident that the governor’s sinister objective is the assassination of the president of the congress, a motive laid bare by this latest act of aggression on the community.

This invasion was carried out under the misguided belief that Comrade Ajaero was still present, recovering from injuries inflicted by the police and hired thugs.”

On November 1, Ajaero was subjected to an assault in Owerri, the state capital, during a protest organized by the labour unions.
