The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has undergone a substantial transformation with the retirement of ten directors who have served diligently in various capacities. The directors took this step following the mandatory age limit of 60 years and 35 years of dedicated service.
The send-off event, held in Abuja on Sunday, garnered heartfelt congratulations from INEC’s national commissioner, Prof. Mohammed Adams. In his address, he commended the retiring officials for their valuable contributions to the organization and encouraged them to view retirement as the commencement of a new chapter.

“As you retire, you shouldn’t at any time worry yourself about the past, but the future,” remarked Prof. Adams, emphasizing that this milestone is the initiation of another significant phase in their lives.
He further advised the retirees to channel their energy into meaningful activities that promise financial stability. Prof. Adams also used the occasion to reassure those in active service, urging them not to fear retirement but rather to seize the opportunity to carve out a distinctive niche for themselves.
The list of retirees includes prominent figures such as Mrs Blessing Obidiegwu, who served in the capacity of Gender and Inclusivity; Anthony Abarowei, whose expertise lay in Finance and Accounts; Micah Lakumna, known for his role in Administration; Alhaji Idris Aminu, a key player in Election and Party Monitoring; Olayiwola Oyeniyi, contributing to Finance and Accounts; and Chima Duruaku, recognized for his role in Planning and Monitoring.
Others bidding farewell are Mr Leonard Lortsor (Estate, Works, and Transport); Ayodele Aluko (Voter Education and Publicity); Samson Lebari (Security); and Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola (Legal Services and Drafting).
This reshuffling of INEC’s top echelons marks a strategic transition in the commission’s leadership, setting the stage for new faces to take up critical roles.
