The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the procedures for voters to confirm their polling units ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25th.
The electoral umpire stated that this was necessary due to the creation of an additional 56,872 polling units, even though some voters have been migrated to the new units.
INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu was quoted in a notice posted on its Twitter page as saying that following the recent nationwide mock accreditation exercise using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), some voters showed up at the wrong polling units. As a result, this notice is necessary ahead of the election next weekend.

Finding yourself in the wrong polling unit is one of the greatest mistakes you want to avoid. Assuming you applied for a change of voting location but the migration was unsuccessful, what will be your fate? What it means is that you will find yourself in the wrong location and searching for your name in the wrong location.
Therefore, check your polling unit location again and again to see if you are qualified to vote in your present location.
INEC is quietly migrating people to other units, especially where a polling unit has more than 750 voters.
The increase in voter registration means there will be a corresponding increase in polling units. The maximum number of voters a PU is supposed to handle is 750 for effectiveness.
Where a PU has more than 750 registered voters, it is very likely that the “excess” number will be migrated to other areas.
The criteria for determining who to migrate is simply alphabetical.
The names are counted in alphabetical order (A-Z); the first 750 are retained in the PU while the rest are migrated. It does not matter if one has been a consistent voter in all the electoral cycles.

Having a PVC is no longer a guarantee that you will vote. If your name has been migrated to another PU from where you’ve been used to (even if you made no request for a change of location) for the above reason, you may not be allowed to vote there on voting day.
It is therefore imperative that all registered voters check the exact location of their polling unit days before Election Day in order to avoid stories that touch the heart.

How to check your PVC at the INEC Voters Card Verification Portal
There are three methods on How to check your polling units and your INEC PVC’s validity.
1st Method: Check status using your name and date of birth.
Visit INEC PVC Verification portal at https://voters.inecnigeria.org/
- Simply select your state of registration.
- Select your local government for registration.
- Input your last name (surname).
- Type in your first name.
- Select your date of birth (day, month, and year).
- Security Check: Verify if you are human or not by checking the box “I’m not a robot.”
- Then tap “Check Status.“
If your status is valid, it will show your details at the INEC Voters card Verification Portal.
How to check your polling units and validate your PVC on INEC Voters Card Verification Portal using VIN
2nd Method: Check status using the VIN.
Visit INEC PVC Verification portal at https://voters.inecnigeria.org/
- Simply select your state of registration.
- Select your local government for registration.
- Input your last name (surname).
- Enter your voter identification number (VIN)—you should enter your full VIN or the last 5 digits of your VIN.
- Security Check: Verify if you are human or not by checking the box “I’m not a robot.”
- Then tap “Check Status.“
3rd method: How to check your polling units using text SMS.
To check polling unit using SMS you should follow this format as given by INEC.
Text State, last name & last 6 digits of your VIN to 09062830860 or 09062830861 for your PU name and location.
