As the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp opened nationwide, Polytechnic graduates with Higher National Diplomas (HND) who lacked Industrial Training (IT) certification were turned away.

NYSC’s new policy requires IT certification for those fulfilling their national service obligations, leading to the suspension of the screening process for certain HND graduates.

Earlier reports had highlighted NYSC’s announcement mandating that HND graduates provide proof of completing a one-year IT program before being registered at the camps.

The policy affects graduates from polytechnics and monotechnics mobilised for Batch B Stream II, who must present evidence of their mandatory IT to participate in the camp.

During a visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, our correspondent observed a smooth registration process for those with all required documents. However, some corps members were rejected due to missing IT certificates.

Affected individuals expressed frustration, lamenting that they were prepared to serve but faced exclusion over certification issues. They hope for a resolution that allows them to meet their service obligations without penalty for documentation gaps.

One anonymous corps member described the situation as poorly timed, noting that peers were already serving without facing this new hurdle.

Mrs. Hauwa Collins, a nursing mother, reported that the registration process was efficient for those with complete documentation. She noted that while some faced difficulties, those with all required documents had no issues.

At the time of reporting, corps members continued to arrive at the camp, and the resolution for those affected remained unclear. Security measures at the camp restricted further access, limiting additional information from being obtained.
