Jubilation as Supreme Court Rules on Adamawa Governorship Election
Supreme Court Affirms Ahmadu Fintiri as Adamawa Governor, Dismisses Binani’s Appeal.
In a landmark judgment delivered moments ago, the Supreme Court has unequivocally affirmed the election victory of Ahmadu Fintiri, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the Governor of Adamawa State.
The ruling, reached by a unanimous decision of the five-member panel, effectively dismisses the appeal brought forth by Aishatu Ahmed Dahiru, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last gubernatorial election in the state.
Presiding over the panel, Justice John Okoro delivered the lead judgment, declaring the election victory of Dahiru, as proclaimed by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), as unlawful and a nullity.

The Justice underscored that, according to the Electoral Act, it is the sole prerogative of the Returning Officer of any election to officially announce the results, and any other individual assuming this role acts in contravention of the law.
Justice Okoro went on to emphasize that the appellants, comprising Dahiru and the APC, failed to furnish credible evidence substantiating their claim of non-compliance with relevant laws.

Moreover, there was a lack of convincing proof that Dahiru secured the majority of lawful votes cast during the election.
This Supreme Court affirmation solidifies Ahmadu Fintiri’s mandate as the legitimate Governor of Adamawa State and underscores the court’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and due process in electoral matters.
As the legal process concludes, the focus now turns to governance, with Governor Fintiri poised to continue leading the state with the trust and mandate of the people.
