In a significant move, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, June 12, as a public holiday to mark the celebration of Democracy Day in 2023.

The declaration was made by Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, who acted on behalf of the government. In her statement, Dr. Akinlade extended her congratulations to all Nigerians on this momentous occasion.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey, she acknowledged that it has experienced both challenges and successes, much like many other nations. However, she emphasized that the ship of State, its institutions, and above all, the Nigerian people, have remained unwavering in their commitment to the principles of democratic governance.
