Bandits abduct 46 persons in Katsina
Approximately 46 people were kidnapped over the weekend by bandits operating in communities located within the Batsari and Funtua local government areas of Katsina State.
According to a source who spoke with this online newspaper, on Friday, one person was killed and 28 people were kidnapped in the village of Karare located within the Batsari Local Government Area.

He explained that the armed men stormed the village early in the morning and rode away on motorcycles with the victims, many of whom were women and children. The total number of victims was approximately forty.
According to the source, the majority of the kidnapped students came from the Kokiya village and were on their way to the Government Day Secondary School in Karare.
He went on to say that “the attackers came from the southern part of the village and started shooting sporadically,” which ultimately led to the death of one individual.

According to the source, the bandits kidnapped 28 people, some of whom were students, but they later released four of them.
The source emphasised that among the four people who were released was a Malam Ladan, as well as three children, because the bandits had communicated to them that they would not accept old naira notes as ransom.
According to him, one more person managed to get away, while the bandits currently have 23 people in their custody. The kidnappers have not made any demands for a ransom at this time.
