Thugs attack 8 PDP chieftains in Cross River
At least eight strong members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were attacked early on Monday in Ikot Offiong, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River, and property worth millions of naira was damaged.
This online newspaper gathered that about 100 thugs caused a lot of trouble, but no one died. Instead, they destroyed the PDP Chieftains’ homes, cars, electronics, fish ponds, and other valuables.

Some of the affected Chieftains were severely hurt by political thugs who were said to be loyal to the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Joseph Bassey, who is also the APC candidate for Calabar South/Akpabuyo and Bakassi Federal Constituency.
Others attacked; the State Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Francis Ekeng, Hon. Francis Effanga, and the D/G Ekpo Okon Campaign Council are all affected. Elder Effiom Edet Ekpo, PDP Ward Chairman, Atimbo Westward. Ekpo is running for a Senate seat in the south for the PDP.
Supervisor in Calabar South, Innocent Atsenudiara Some of the others are Amanso Okon Etim, the youth leader for the PDP chapter in Atimbo East Ward, Edet Okon Etim (also known as Sunny), the youth leader for Atimbo West Ward, Emmanuel Eyo, also from Atimbo West Ward, and Saviour Maurice, the vice chairman of the PDP chapter in Atimbo West.
People who were hurt by the attack and talked to this online newspaper said that the people who did it broke into their homes, destroyed some of their property, and stole from others.
Elder Ekpo, who is the head of the PDP ward in Atimbo West, told newsmen that the attack happened between 2:30 and 3 am on Monday.
The chieftain said he could still remember the names of the attackers and that they were shouting the whole time they were coming.
Ekpo said, “This attack happened because the Deputy Speaker held a meeting in the community on Sunday night, and some of these boys were there.”

During the attack, they were actually shouting, “No PDP member will be allowed to vote in the elections, and we will come out with guns to make sure of it.”
When asked, the Deputy Speaker of the CRSHA, Hon. Joseph Bassey, said he wasn’t behind the attack and that he never sent anyone to cause trouble for anyone.
Bassey, who is running for the House of Representatives for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Calabar South/Akpabuyo/Bakassi Federal Constituency, said that he had always played politics by the rules.
“I’m not from Akpabuyo, and I don’t have any boys there. I only go there when I’m invited, which is what happened on Sunday when I opened a campaign office that was given to me by one of my supporters.
“Those who say I was behind the attack don’t have anything to say. Bassey said, “I am against violence and thugs in politics and cults.
When CP Sule Balarabe was asked about the situation, he said that they were taking care of it and that men had been sent to the area to bring things back to normal.
He told the people who were making trouble to get ready, because security services won’t let anyone break the peace in the Local government area for any reason.
CP Balabare told politicians in the state to follow the rules of engagement before, during, and after election season. He also said that all politicians in the state needed to be more tolerant of each other.
