Ademola Adeleke - Osun Governorship election appeal court judgement

The judgement declaring the state’s most recent local government elections invalid on October 15 was appealed, according to the Osun State House of Assembly, so the elected officials should be permitted to remain in their positions.

The resolution was mentioned in a statement that Kunle Alabi, the press secretary for the assembly speaker, obtained on Wednesday in Osogbo.

Through its Executive Secretary, Adedapo Adejumo, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission announced plans to not appeal the decision of an Osogbo Federal High Court that dismissed the elected officials of LGAs and withdrew Certificates of Return that had been given to them.

The Assembly, however, claimed that it made the decision to keep the dismissed Council members in their positions during a plenary when its Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, informed members of the results of a meeting it had with the governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Owoeye also mentioned that there was a mutual understanding that the House would going forward be carried along on matters that concern the legislature while briefing Assembly members on the outcome of the meeting with Adeleke.

In reference to LG administration, Owoeye informed the assembly that a notice of appeal had been filed against a Federal High Court ruling that had been served on the 7th Assembly.

The House decides that the matter of local government administration should be decided by a court of law and orders a status quo for all local government operations until all legal options have been exhausted.

The statement continued, “This is the Osun State House of Assembly, anything we are doing has to be to the development and progress of this state, we have not done anything wrong or foul of the law,” quoting Owoeye as he addressed his colleagues.
