Salisu highlighted that these severe measures were explicitly outlined in the Kaduna State Government Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPPL) of 2018.

She emphasized that the law’s implementation followed extensive advocacy, lobbying, and awareness campaigns conducted by civil society organizations in tandem with relevant government agencies.

Citing the surge in reported cases of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Kaduna State since the law’s enactment in December 2018, Salisu linked the rise to heightened awareness about VAWG and the availability of the law for prosecution.
