TUC, NLC strike to begin on Monday, June 3, 2024.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, announced that the union would embark on an indefinite nationwide strike starting Monday, June 3. This decision was disclosed during a press briefing at Labour House, Abuja.
Ajaero stated that the strike is in response to the federal government’s failure to conclude negotiations on a new national minimum wage and to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs.
The strike is set to commence at midnight on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

On Friday, NLC officials walked out of a 37-member tripartite committee meeting in Abuja due to the federal government’s stance on the issue. Festus Osifo, president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), confirmed the development and provided further details to journalists.
During the briefing, leaders of both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) urged Nigerians to bear with them, apologizing for any inconvenience while affirming their commitment to pursuing the cause to its conclusion.
