Labour Party defeats incumbent to win another Reps seat

Labour Party has defeated incumbent house of representatives member.

 

The Labour Party’s Honourable Afam Victor Ogene has been declared the winner of the Ogbaru Federal House of Representatives election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Anambra State.

Hon. Afam Ogene of the Labour Party received 10,851 of the total votes cast, according to the Returning Officer, Professor Kingsley Ubaorji of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, who also announced the results. Hon. Chukwuma Wilfred Onyema of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came in second with 10,619 votes.

The Returning Officer reported that APGA’s Hon. Arinze John Awogu finished third with 10,155 votes.

The Labour Party’s That Hon Afam Ogene, who met all legal qualifications and received the most votes overall, was proclaimed the election’s victor, the returning officer said.

Hon. Mrs. Nkechi Ismade of the APC received 303 votes, Nwachukwu Victor of the ADC received 39 votes, Obunne Celestine of the NNPP received 124 votes, and Nwadialor C of the SDP received 27 votes.

The PDP had earlier won the supplementary election with over a thousand votes, followed by APGA, LP, and then the PDP.

However, when the results were compared to the results of the last election on February 25, the Labour Party candidate came out on top, followed by the PDP candidate and APGA as the second and third place finishers.

 

Hon. Afam Victor Ogene defeated Hon. Chukwuma Onyema of the Peoples Democratic Party, a third-term member of the Green Chamber and the district’s current member of the House of Representatives.
