Latest Naija News on Money Laundering Trial of Former JAMB Registrar, Adedibu Ojerinde, and Four Children.
The trial of Adedibu Ojerinde, the former registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), along with four of his children, experienced a setback on Monday at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. The trial, scheduled to commence, was adjourned until November 15 and November 16 following a plea for an adjournment by the defence.
The defence counsel, Ibrahim Isiyaku, SAN, requested the adjournment before Justice Inyang Ekwo, citing the need to make proper arrangements for the representation of the defendants. Mr Isiyaku, representing multiple defendants, acknowledged the case was slated for trial but explained that he had only fully engaged with the matter the previous day.

“Having studied the file, I realise that we cannot appear for all the defendants but for seven of them only in order to avoid a conflict of interest. I have already discussed with the prosecution that we shall be seeking adjournment and later arranging counsel for the other four defendants,” he stated.
The prosecution, represented by ICPC’s lawyer, Ebenezer Shogunle, did not oppose the application but indicated a concession for a one-day adjournment, emphasizing the presence of their witnesses. Mr Isiyaku, expressing his unavailability the next day due to an election petition commitment, secured an adjournment until November 15 and November 16.

Justice Ekwo cautioned that the court would not entertain questions regarding document admissibility until the end of the trial to expedite the proceedings. The ICPC had, on June 15, arraigned Adedibu Ojerinde on charges of official corruption and abuse of office, along with four of his children and six companies linked to him.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the 17-count charge and were granted bail by the court.
