Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has found herself in the eye of a social media storm following her endorsement of Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election.

The actress, in a video widely shared on social media, can be seen urging voters to support Okpebholo at a rally, highlighting the need for change in the state.

She rallied the crowd by asking, “Are you not tired? No light, water, healthcare, security, and good roads. If you will vote for Senator Monday, raise your hand.”

 

Despite her appeal, Johnson’s public endorsement has been met with significant backlash online, with critics accusing her of aligning with the ruling APC despite widespread economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Okpebholo will be contesting against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party () and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), among other candidates, in the September 21 election.
