Millions of naira lost as Lagos port catches fire

Newly received information indicates that a fire incident has occurred at Berth 7 and 8 of the Ports and Cargo Terminal in Tin Can Island port, Lagos.

As reported, one of the cranes at the port caught fire, and this had an impact on a vessel, the MV Algeciras Express, which was carrying containers.

Based on the testimony of an eyewitness, the crane caught fire during the unloading of containers from the vessel, leading to damage to the vessel and several other containers.

Reports suggest that the fire on the Liebherr crane and MV Hapag resulted from a mechanical issue.

After several hours of burning, the fire was eventually brought under control by the firefighters.

As of now, the management of Lagos Port has not released an official statement regarding the fire incident.
