Wike, Tinubu Romance sparks Anxiety in Rivers state APC
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is concerned about the strange cordial relationship between Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the party’s hierarchy, particularly President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The development is upsetting APC members just before Tinubu’s inauguration as President and the formation of his cabinet.
Wike is believed to have worked for the national ruling party during the 2023 presidential election, against his own political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and his move has fueled speculation that the Governor will soon join the ruling party.

Prior to the party’s presidential primary election in May 2022, Wike was the most loyal and influential leader in the PDP.
Nigerians will not soon forget how, during voting at the convention held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, the Governor vowed to commit to the party.
“I vow today that whoever emerges here will have my full support because I am a committed party member,” he said at the time. I’ve been at this party since 1998, and I’m not leaving.”
However, immediately following the primary, the Governor engaged in a protracted battle with the PDP’s national body and the party’s elected presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, dragging four other governors along with him to form the G5.
After the election, he took it a step further by inviting Tinubu to commission projects in the oil-rich state.
However, Chibuike Amaechi, a former governor of the state who finished second in the party’s presidential primary in June 2022, has been conspicuously absent on all of Tinubu’s visits to Rivers State, whether as a presidential candidate or as President-elect.

Wike was one of the politicians who questioned what good works President Buhari had done that presidential aspirants like Bola Tinubu would use to launch their campaigns.
Wike previously stated that Nigerians were suffering under the yoke of APC maladministration, with an intractable insecurity situation crippling the economy and increasing hunger.
All of that changed during the presidential election.
Apart from being accused of rigging the presidential election in favour of the APC candidate, Wike has demonstrated through words and actions that he was firmly behind Tinubu before, during, and after the elections.
Members of the APC in the state see Wike’s actions as a plan to be appointed minister when his term expires on May 29.
During a recent visit to Rivers State, Tinubu praised Wike for working for his emergence, particularly by weakening the PDP.
