High-tension cable electrocutes widow, son
In the Eruemukohwarien community of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, a widow named Mary and her son, Prince, were electrocuted by a Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) 11KVA high-tension cable.
According to eyewitness accounts, tragedy struck when the cable snapped on the roof of a market stall, resulting in Mary receiving a fatal electric shock while attempting to rescue her son.

Meanwhile, The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally confirmed that suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele is in its custody.
The secret police arrested Emefiele after he was removed from his position of leadership.
However, the agency tweeted that the head of the bank was not in its custody, drawing mixed reactions.
Peter Afunanya, spokesman for the agency, confirmed on Saturday that Emefiele is in custody in a statement.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is currently in its custody for investigative purposes.”
“The public, especially the Media, is urged to exercise extreme caution in their reporting and narratives on this matter.”

Emefiele was suspended for a variety of reasons, including his recent role in the naira swap and cashless policy that nearly derailed the conduct of the 2023 general elections, according to credible sources within the presidency and the intelligence community.

Neither the suspended CBN governor nor Isa Abdulmumin, the official spokesman of the central bank, could be reached for comment.

The sources stated that they were appalled by Buhari’s ‘I-don’t-care’ attitude towards the facts, figures, and irrefutable indicting documents presented to him by various agencies regarding the financial misdeeds of the suspended CBN governor.
It was learned that the DSS, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and numerous domestic and international financial regulatory agencies have grievances with the embattled Emefiele.
Friday night, Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, issued a statement on behalf of Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announcing his suspension.
This was a result of the ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms to the financial sector, according to the statement.
