Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State, has responded to a controversial remark made by former Edo State governor, ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE, who referred to her as ‘childless’. The comment, made during an interview, triggered widespread condemnation.
In a Zoom meeting with over 200 Edo women in the diaspora, Mrs. Obaseki shared her personal experience with miscarriages and stillbirths. She emphasized that motherhood and fruitfulness extend beyond biological childbearing.

“I dare to call you fruitful. You and I are potential and proud mothers of children that will come in God’s time,” she said. Obaseki comforted women who have faced similar painful experiences, stating, “You are not barren,” and encouraged them to focus on other life purposes.
She stressed that her contributions to society have far exceeded the biological realm, and urged women to find fulfillment in impacting lives and creating positive societal changes. “Women can fulfil God’s purpose in many ways beyond motherhood,” she added, offering a message of hope and resilience to those facing similar challenges.
