The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, is facing criticism for his recent remarks regarding the results of the state’s gubernatorial election.

In a recently circulated video, El-Rufai made a statement suggesting that the selection of a Muslim deputy was a calculated move to assert dominance over Christians and other religious groups.

According to his statement, the chain will persist indefinitely.

Transcript of the video below;

When people ask me why I chose Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe as my deputy in 2019, I said to them that one, I have investigated and realized that majority of those that are in other religions do not vote those of our religion, majority! Why should I then give them the position of deputy?

I have also noticed that we can win the elections without giving them the post. That is one… This is politics, all you want is to win elections, you want people to vote for you.

We have checked, from the inception of democracy, we know where we win and where we don’t win democratically.

Secondly, what we want to prove to them is that a government that has both the governor, the deputy, the SSG, the Chief of Staff and the commissioner finance are all muslims will never cheat the Christians in Kaduna.

Wherever we go, we tell them that yes, all our topmost positions are given to Muslims, but can any Christian come out to say the government cheated them by not doing for them what was their right? Is there any area we did not repair school, or that we did not build hospitals or construct roads… Is there any area we did not help the farmer wether they voted us or not?

We gave everyone their rights. Of course, Kugbo voted us more, for that reason, I do more for them. Because they voted us, what I should give to Jaba, I’ll add it to that of Kugbo because they voted us and Jaba didn’t, but we gave them their right, and that is what you our lmans and leaders taught us. Islamic leadership is that of fairness.

Our prophet sat with those that are not Muslims, including Christians and pagans, and they all said amen to him because he did them well, as well as Abubakar, Uthman, Ali, they all did them well. No one will say he was cheated because he’s not a Muslim, only that you do more for those that love you, but you will never take anyone’s rights.

Every time we go for campaigns, I tell them, it is true we only pick Muslims and that’s because we are considering those that would work, not religion… Of course, we are considering religion but I will not tell them that… My question is, who can stand up and say this government trampled on their right? No one answers, only that they have all been misbehaving in the past killing people and this government has put a stop to it or that you have been blocking roads before and we told you the consequences and you understand we meant it. That’s what we did for four years. And that is what we have proven again since Senator Uba Sani and his deputy won the elections again with all the conspiracy of religion they did to us. And you, our teachers and lmans did the work for us, not even the politician. The politician cheated us, walahi, it was all of you.

Senator Uba Sani knows this, we all know we know those that took money and switched off their phones and never came out, we paid the polling unit agents and they did not show up, we know those that came out and worked for us, we know these things and we are grateful and may God bless you all.

The same way you all supported our administration, I beg you in the name of God and the prophet, to give same support to Senator Uba Sani so that when he’s done with this four years, he would go again and we will continue in same way, let us show people that Islamic rule does not differentiate, but it dislikes disloyalty, that’s all we want to show them.

We have started and it has not ended, we will do this for 20 years and counting, then everyone will understand.

When Uba is done with his 8 years, that will make 16 years, right? Then we go again and make it 24 years, and everyone will say we get it now, we know our stand and we know these Muslims won’t cheat us, that’s all they people will live in peace… Walahi, talahi.

That is what we wanted to achieve since we came out contesting for leadership, and with the help of God, your prayers and your assistance,we are on course…
