Naira Marley visits NDLEA, urges Nigerian youths to shun drug abuse.

Renowned Nigerian artiste Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley or “Igbo labi,” has taken a public stance against drug abuse during his visit to the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa, in Abuja. Naira Marley, known for his songs that often mention drug use and other social vices, used the opportunity to encourage Nigerian youths to steer clear of drug abuse, emphasizing its detrimental effects on health and well-being.

In a video obtained by reporters, the “Jo Soapy” singer pledged his support to the NDLEA’s campaign against drug abuse and expressed his concern about the association between drug use and criminal activities. Naira Marley urged his fans, especially Marlians (his fan base), to abandon substance abuse and contribute to the effort to eliminate drugs from the streets.

His call to reject drug abuse comes after previous controversies surrounding his association with drug-related themes in his music. In February 2022, two of his associates, Zinoleesky and Mohbad, were arrested by the NDLEA in Lagos during a raid on their residence. The arrest, accompanied by videos showing a confrontation between the artists and NDLEA officials, led to the recovery of cannabis and Molly, a form of ecstasy.

Both Zinoleesky and Mohbad had gained prominence through their collaboration with Naira Marley and their involvement in his music videos. The artistes’ arrests prompted discussions about the influence of music and celebrity culture on the behavior of young people.
