A Nation Remembers: Army Mourns Slain Soldiers with Half-Mast Tribute
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) initiated a three-day national mourning period on Monday to honour the 17 slain soldiers who were tragically killed by irate youths in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State.
Among the fallen are the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion Oleh, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali; the Joint Task Force (JTF) Commander in Bomadi, Major Gembu Shafa; another major; and a captain.

In light of this, flags will be flown at half-mast at all military locations across the country.
Sources revealed that a signal has been sent to all three branches of the Services—the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
“The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has issued a directive to the three Services. From Monday, March 18, 2024, to March 20, 2024, all colours (flags) are to be flown at half-mast in honour of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) personnel killed in action (KIA),” stated a source.

Flying the flag at half-mast is a mark of respect and mourning for the heroic personnel who have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.
