Nigerian Government Suspends Top Correctional Officers Over Bobrisky Bribery Allegations.

In the wake of allegations involving cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, the Nigerian government has suspended several senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) responsible for the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State. This decision follows claims that Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison, was granted unauthorised access to an apartment outside the custodial facility.

The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, made the announcement in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.

Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo initiated a probe into the case after an audio leak surfaced online, raising questions about the treatment of Bobrisky within the correctional system.

The officers affected by the suspension include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), both in Kirikiri, Lagos.

Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate outside the facility, while Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of MSCC Kuje, Abuja, was suspended for reportedly accepting bribes on behalf of an inmate.

The government assures that the findings of the investigation will be made public once concluded, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accountability
