800,000 Get Credit in English, Maths as NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results
The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with over 800,000 candidates securing credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
According to NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55% of those who sat for the exam, achieved credit passes in both subjects. The announcement was made at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.

A total of 1,376,036 candidates participated in the 2024 internal SSCE, with the results released approximately two months after the final exams were concluded. Further details revealed that 83.9% of the candidates obtained five credits and above, regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics.
Improvement in Examination Conduct
Prof. Wushishi highlighted a notable decrease in malpractice cases. A total of 8,407 candidates were involved in exam malpractices, a reduction from 12,030 cases recorded in the 2023 examination.
“The 2024 SSCE was conducted from June 19th to July 26th, and the marking exercise took place between August 19th and September 8th. This makes it 55 days after the last paper, showing that all necessary processes have been completed for the release of the results,” the NECO boss explained.

Examination Malpractices and Sanctions
Prof. Wushishi revealed that 40 schools across 17 states were caught engaging in mass cheating during the examination. These schools will face a panel for disciplinary measures. Additionally, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to misconduct, including extortion and drunkenness.
