According to reports, the majority of those injured are fishermen conducting business in the area and planting okro, pepper, and other crops.
A farmer was hacked to death in the neighbouring Zarama community just one week prior to Tuesday’s invasion of Okordia.
SP Asinim Butswat, a police spokesman in Bayelsa State, confirmed the death of the chief and stated that the body had been recovered while an investigation was ongoing.
He stated, “Suspected herders killed one man in the fishing camp there; we were able to recover the body; he died from a bullet wound that was observed in his body.”
