IGP’s Tenure Extended, Rules For Retirement Changed — Police Affairs Minister

Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), will not be retiring during the general elections as had been previously anticipated, according to Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Dingyadi.

During a press conference at the State House following the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of the year, he clarified as reporters questioned him.

Dingyadi added that the Police Act 2020 had altered the guidelines for an IGP’s retirement after asserting that Baba already had an appointment letter extending his term in office.

According to recent media reports, the IGP will turn 60 on March 1, 2023, and will be expected to abide by the law requiring public employees to retire at that age.

 

 

1) The last two victims of the state’s Igueben train kidnapping have been rescued, according to the Edo State government, which announced yesterday that seven people, including two traditional heads, have been detained. 5) A lawsuit seeking the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their Muslim-Muslim presidential candidacies for the 2023 election was dismissed by Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday. The judge dismissed the lawsuit brought by Mr. Osigwe Ahmed Momoh, an attorney with offices in Abuja, for lack of locus standi on the part of the plaintiff.
