Nigerian Police Issues Warning Over ‘No Go Gree for Anybody’ Slang Amid Rising Popularity

The Nigerian Police Force has voiced its strong disapproval of the widely used slang “No Go Gree for Anybody,” cautioning citizens about its potential implications.

The popular catchphrase, which has gained widespread attention and is seen by many as a declaration of standing firm in one’s beliefs, now faces scrutiny from law enforcement.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed the force’s concerns, stating that they had received intelligence indicating that the slogan could be associated with a revolutionary movement capable of inciting unrest across the country.

Adejobi emphasized, “‘No go gree for anybody’ is being seen as just a normal talk, but in security business, in the security community, we have seen it as a very dangerous slogan that can trigger crisis.”

The warning comes as various memes and social media posts featuring the slogan circulate online. One meme, for instance, depicts a tricycle being overtaken by a larger vehicle, symbolizing a disregard for the right of way.

The slogan has even been incorporated into a logo and inscribed on clothing and other items, reflecting its growing popularity among the youth and citizens.

While some interpret the catchphrase as a call to remain resolute in personal convictions, the police are urging caution, viewing it through the lens of potential security threats.

The announcement raises questions about the balance between freedom of expression and the authorities’ responsibility to maintain public order.

As the ‘No Go Gree for Anybody’ trend continues to gain momentum, it remains to be seen how this clash of perspectives will unfold and whether it will prompt further discussions on freedom of speech and societal responsibility in Nigeria.
