LAGOS, Nigeria — Helen Williams, a professional wig maker from Nigeria, has achieved a new milestone by setting the Guinness World Record for crafting the widest handmade wig.

The extraordinary wig measures an impressive 3.65 meters (11 feet 11 inches) in width, extending beyond the length of a Mini Cooper. Williams embarked on this record-breaking endeavor in February, dedicating just over a month to complete the monumental task.

Using more than 800 bundles of auburn hair, Williams meticulously stitched the wig together by hand, with the assistance of a sewing machine for certain parts. The elaborate creation is further adorned with over 1,000 rhinestones, adding a touch of glamour to the impressive hairpiece.

A Monumental Achievement

Despite the significant challenges, Williams expressed immense pride in her accomplishment. “I am very proud of myself. I now hold three records. As a professional wig maker, I look forward to breaking many more records in the wig category,” she said.

Williams highlighted the personal growth and learning that comes with taking on such difficult tasks. “I enjoy taking on difficult tasks, it makes me a better person and I learn new things,” she added.

Setting New Standards

Helen Williams’ achievement not only highlights her exceptional skill and dedication but also places Nigerian craftsmanship on the global stage. With this new record, she continues to inspire other artisans and showcases the potential for creative excellence within the industry.
