Federal Government to Launch National Discourse on Reorientation Amidst Waning Trust in Leadership

The Federal Government of Nigeria has underscored the urgency of reigniting a national conversation on reorientation, highlighting a prevailing lack of trust in elected leaders.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, emphasized this imperative after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 18.

Minister Idris acknowledged that faith in the concepts of nationhood and patriotism has eroded within the country.

He outlined that President Tinubu has tasked him with spearheading a program to rejuvenate these essential values.

“It is evident that the belief in the concept of nationhood and patriotism has broken down in this country. This is not in doubt. We’re trying to rebuild that, to reconstruct that, Mr. President gave me a marching order to ensure that Nigerians believe in this country once again.

We’re coming up with a national discourse on orientation or reorientation so that Nigerians can believe in their country,” Minister Idris stated.

He further highlighted that citizens’ trust in their elected leaders has waned, flagging a decline in visible displays of national identity, even in public buildings abroad.

The Federal Government aims to reintroduce the spirit of discipline, patriotism, and faith in the nation’s foundational principles, as articulated by its founding figures.
