When asked if his salary included allowances, Ngige stated that, like other ministers, he is ineligible for additional benefits.

When further questioned, the Minister stated, “My food, my transport, one Personal Assistant’s salary, my gardener’s salary and my books are all consolidated.” They pay me N942,000 after a number of taxes. This describes every minister you see. With the exception of when we travel, we have no allowances.”

Previously, Ngige stated that Nigerian workers are entitled to higher wages, but that the federal government is doing everything possible to achieve this goal.

On the other hand, the Labour Minister rejected claims that the minimum wage would be increased before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Ngige explained that such a review occurs every five years and that the next one is anticipated to occur in 2024 under the incoming administration, as the most recent occurred in 2019.

In a separate event, the Minister of Labour and Employment criticised the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) for threatening to go on strike if their demands are not met within two weeks.

On Saturday, resident doctors in Nigeria reportedly gave the federal government two weeks to meet their demands or face industrial unrest.

This was disclosed by the resident doctors in a communiqué issued on Saturday following an Extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The doctors’ list of demands included the doctors’ welfare, the alarming rate of their emigration to other countries, poor remuneration, inadequate funding of the health sector, and the consequential negative impact on citizens and health workers.
